There has been a flurry of brand identities launched in the past couple of months, many of them high-profile. Some are featured in this edition of Snapshots, including Vodafone, Celestica, YouTube, Dropbox, Firefox, Movies Anywhere, Jerónimo Martins Group, Re/Max, Westjet’s Swoop, and Capgemini.


Vodafone updated its brand identity, launching it at the beginning of October with its largest advertising campaign of its 33-year history. The company claims it is one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies, with “mobile operations in 26 countries, partners with mobile networks in 49 more, and fixed broadband operations in 19 markets. As of 30 June 2017, Vodafone Group had 523.5 million mobile customers and 18.5 million fixed broadband customers…” Based in London, England, Vodafone has about 108,00 employees.

Celestica launched their new brand identity last month. With headquarters in Toronto, this technology company states it had revenues $6.0 billion US (2106), and has about 25,000 employees working in approximately 20 manufacturing and design locations worldwide.

At the end of August, YouTube updated their brand identity, with a logo that takes the “Tube” out of the red button. Since YouTube launched 12 years ago, it is now part of Google (or Alphabet) and claims it has over one billion users or almost one-third of the internet.

Dropbox, the cloud storage company, unveiled its new brand identity at the beginning of October. The company claims 500 million people around the world and 200,000 businesses use their services. With headquarters in San Francisco, they operate globally, with operations in New York City, Amsterdam, London, Hamburg, Sydney, and Tokyo, among others.

Ahead of its new version due out on November 14, the web browser Firefox unveiled its new brand identity this month. Firefox is an open source product of Mozilla. The organization describes itself as “a global, nonprofit organization dedicated to making the Web better.” They also claim that Firefox, available in 89 languages, is used by half a billion people around the world with more than 50% using the “non-English versions.”

Movies Anywhere launched in mid-October. Celebrating its 225th anniversary, the Jerónimo Martins Group unveiled its new brand identity on September 27. This Portuguese food distribution and retail store company has over 96,000 employees in its operations in Portugal, as well as Poland and Columbia.

After 44 years, Re/Max launched a refreshed brand identity towards the end of August. The Re/Max Network which has its headquarters in Denver, Colorado, claims it has “over 115,000 agents (providing) RE/MAX a global reach of more than 100 countries and territories.” Re/Max also claims it has raised over $157 million (US) for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® and other charities.

WestJet introduced its ultra-low-cost carrier on September 27. Based in Calgary, Alberta, Swoop will start selling its no-frills, lower fare flights “in early 2018.” Founded in 1986 and based in Calgary, WestJet states it flies to over 100 destinations with a fleet of about 150 aircraft.

After 13 years since the last branding exercise, Capgemini, the global consulting and technology firm, launched its new brand identity on October 17. Paris-based Capgemini is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary and claims it has over 190,000 employees in operations in over 40 countries.
