January is typically a favourite month for companies launching their new brand identities. The past few weeks since the start of the new year is no exception.
This Snapshot takes a brief look at some major brands that were launched. These include TransUnion, Electrolux, Pitney Bowes, Jazzercise, Freeview, Singtel, Seagate, ZTE, SYZ and Panda.

ZTE, a Chinese technology company, launched its new brand this past December.
The company describes itself as a “globally-leading provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions.” ZTE says it has operations in 160 countries and is China’s largest listed telecommunications equipment company.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Panda Security launched its new brand identity. It is supposed to reflect “the company’s essence more accurately: innovation, vision and talent. This change represents the birth of a new Panda.
‘We want to be perceived by the industry as we really are: challenging and innovative with deep human values’”, stated Paula Quirós, CMO at Panda Security. Based in Bilbao, Spain, the company claims it has millions of clients in more than 200 countries and products available in 23 languages.

Electrolux, a global leader in household and professional appliances, introduced its updated brand identity in January.
Headquartered in Stockholm, Electrolux claims it sells more than 50 million products to customers in more than 150 markets every year under a number of brands such as Electrolux, AEG, Zanussi and Frigidaire. In September, the company agreed to purchase GE Appliances, which after the close of the sale this year, will continue to be sold under the GE brand.

A British subscription-free TV service, Freeview, launched its new brand identity earlier this month.
Freeview was launched in 2002 and is managed by DTV Services Ltd., a company owned and run by its five shareholders: BBC, Sky, Channel 4, ITV and Arqiva. It provides over 60 television channels, 12 HD channels and over 25 radio stations.

Jazzercise launched its new brand identity at the beginning of January. The new Pitney Bowes brand identity was launched in January to 15,000 employees at a globally broadcasted town hall meeting in Orlando, Florida. “We are not the same company we were several years ago,” said Marc Lautenbach, President and CEO, Pitney Bowes. “… Our new brand strategy and identity not only reflect who we are today, but also where we are going in the future.”
Best known for its shipping and mailing equipment, Pitney Bowes is based in Stamford, Connecticut. It claims it has more than 1.5 million clients in approximately 100 countries that rely on its products, solutions and services.

Seagate unveiled its new brand identity at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the beginning of January. Seagate, selling its products and services under the Seagate and LaCie brands, claims to be the global leader in data storage solutions, “developing amazing products that enable people and businesses around the world to create, share and preserve their most critical memories and business data.” The company is based in Cupertino, California.

The Singapore-based company launched its new brand identity in January, “with a promise – Let’s make everyday better”.
Singtel claims it is “Asia’s leading communications group, with a global network of 40 offices and 38 geo-stationary satellites that support over 500 million mobile customers in 25 countries across Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and USA.” It further states that it operates in Africa and Australia as well, with 22,000 employees worldwide offering a variety of telecommunications products and services.

SYZ, a small Swiss bank unveiled its new brand identity at the beginning of February.
Founded in 1996, Geneva-based SYZ focuses exclusively on asset management through two business lines: high-end private banking and institutional management. SYZ claims it has 440 employees and assets under management of CHF 29 billion (about $30.8 billion US). In comparison, Credit Suisse has nearly 46,000 employees and CHF 1,282.4 billion assets under management.

TransUnion launched its new brand identity last month. The new brand is intended to signal that the company has moved beyond “its traditional consumer credit data reporting role and has begun using data and analytics to provide powerful insights to consumers, businesses and a variety of new vertical markets.” The company claims it operates in 33 countries on five continents and supports more consumer credit bureaus than any other company. TransUnion is headquartered in Chicago.
